The world of Voltron merchandise is truly a vast unknowable rabbit hole, if you dedicate enough of you're own sanity to staring into the abyss of sites like ebay and mecari. From branded sneakers, cursed Halloween costumes and Lion shaped Calculators I welcome you to a small taste of the plethora of Voltron merchandise.
Region 2 DVDs
If your a UK Voltron fan you're rather limited in your options if you wish to watch the series on pysical home media. Vehicle Voltron released by Anchor Bay in 2005 and Lion Force released by Manga UK in 2008.
These limited releases could be due to a few reasons, Voltron's non existence in UK Pop Culture source ,a lack of interest in older anime titles pre-dating the OVA boom or Anime still being seen as niche in the UK market.
For more information:
Did you know? fans have given Vehicle Voltron the very unintentionally cute nickname of Vee Vee (Typed out as VV)
CRYSTAL Lions
Back in 2018 at Toy Fair playmates revealed a bunch of Voltron toys that would never be released amognst these were trans plastic varients of the already released 5.5 inch Lion action figures.
These Lions have been given many names by fans but personally to avoid confusion with Stealth-Mode Voltron I call these felines Crystal Lions.
I got these guys off of aliexpress which makes you consider how close to release these toys were.
Unlike other unreleased toys from Playmate's VLD toyline (Pidge & Hunk) I'm guessing since they're varients of already released toys they were farther in production to get toys produced.
I currently have Green ,Black and soon I'll receive Red in the mail however it seems Yellow and Blue aren't as common and maybe have fewer units produced before they were canned.
Voltron Temporary Tattoos from 1985. I have alot I can say about these tattoos. I know someone opened a pack of these at 2025's Voltcon. Or the fact they definitly no longer work.
Do you know the artwork on these tattoos is traced from Beast King Golion's Settai. I'm very normal about character model sheets.
Despite being produced by Topps. Voltron never received any trading cards (though a trading card game was planned but cancelled in 2013)
Despite the desire among fans for merchandise of our favroute pilots/paladins to display alongside their lions, merchandise has been scarce.
I'm only including offical merchandise so fanmade garage kits aren't mentioned and I'm only discussing 3D repesentations depicting the pilots/paladins so no Hats, Wallets or Shoes.
1982: Technically not Voltron these Dairugger XV Keshi toys seem to depict the Rugger pilots Aki/Jeff, Haruka/Lisa, Kai/Rocky and maybe Jack/Cliff it's hard to confirm due to the lack of clear pictures and how despite using the same mold Keshi toys can still look distinct.
1985 Panosh Place: Action Figures. While not show acurate they are very silly and are clearly inspired by Kenner Star wars which gives them a unique charm . Sven and an updated Allura would have been included in the 1986 wave of the toy line that was never produced.
1986: A stamp featuring Allura this was released in Italy.
1998-9 Trendmasters: V3D Action figures. Using diffrent designs then the ones seen in the show these figures got two varients Including thier standard outfits as well as Stealth mode versions that features lots of metalic details (though the metalic paint easily flakes off over time)
2004 I-Men: These robloxian looking Pilots and Lions were released around Voltron's 20th Anniversary, the helmets are sadly not removable.
2012 Mattel: These Action figures are not only the most accurate to Nakamura's orignal designs but are also the most expensive on the secondhand market. Released as a way to hype up a cancelled Voltron Force toyline these figures are a modernised take on Panosh Place's Action figures and where released exclusivly through Mattycollector an online store aimed at adult collectors. Due to the limited release these figures have become extremley sought after and expensive.
2015 Toynami: Included with Toynami's take on an SD Voltron. They remind me of board game pieces.
2017 Playmates: Releasing as a part of Playmates second wave of VLD toys the baffeling decision to only release Shiro, Keith and Lance has puzzled many fans. Strangely the back of the packaging adverises Hunk and Pidge as well as a few promotional flyers so the decision to not release them seems even more bizzare.
2018 Funko: These Vinyl Pops are the most acessable to fans especially anyone whose favrioute character isn't Keith. If you don't care about boxes these guys are pretty cheap.
2021 Blitzway: These tiny pilots were included with the Carbonix Voltron (These might have been pre-order bonuses idk)
2024 Funko: As a part of Funko's Bitty Bot Line you can get Voltron and a teeny tiny Shiro to pilot the Lion mech.
2024 Mattel: Little People Released to celebrate the 40th Anniversary these pilots are very cute and together can form a Cardboard Voltron.
2024 Monogram Internatinal: Figural Bag Clip. These blind bag figures are around 7ish cm tall and are also very cute. >.<
2025 Blitzway: Included with the Carbonix Legendary Defender Voltron similer to the 2021 minitures these guys are meant to be displayed next to Voltron.
A secret Pre-order bonus was included with this figure though I haven't been able to confirm what it is, some collectors speculated that it was a miniture of Allura in her paladin armour.
With the news of Hasbro's aqusition of the Voltron toy lisense I'm excited to see what they release in the future.
While many Voltron animation Cels have been sold online. They most commonly originate from Beast King Golion or Dairugger XV.
This cel is diffrent as it's from Fleet of Doom and is technically from Dotu's third season of American produced episodes.
This cel apparently originates from WEP's own archives. As a fan of the specific scene this cel is from, I wanted to include it.
I'm a big fan of trippy nightmare seqences okay.
With most animation cels it's fun to compare them to what apears in the final animation for example the top and bottom of this cel gets cut off in the final version. It's also very cool to see the original artwork in sharper resolution.
This flyer is from 1985 and was included at the start of a Voltron colouring book and was given to members after signing up for the official Voltron Fanclub.
Some of the artwork, Keith & Lotor, is traced from the cover of the Golion vinyl. Everyone else's art is either taken from their model sheets or stills from the show as seen with Voltron and VV.
These flyer is a unique time capsule as it advertises Season 3 and Fleet of Doom.
A detail I find really intresting is the paragraph at the bottom.
Commander Keith and Princess Allura and Pidge are coming to meet you at toy stores in your city this fall.
In 1986 there was the Voltron sponsored make-a-wish event which featured 3 costumed actors dressed as Keith, Allura and Pidge. I guess the costumes were used for other smaller promotional events.
Given out to Staff who worked on the show. According to a blog post on Studio Mir's website 3 diffrient items where sent as gifts overseas from Dreamworks.
A Grey T-shirt with a black V logo on the front and the text TEAM VOLTRON at the back.
A Dark Grey mug with an orange interior and the Galaxy Garrison's logo printed on the outside.
A Grey and Silver book bag with the Galaxy Garrison logo embodied on the front.
Funfact two of these items make cameo Aperances in Voltron Legendary Defender the Mug and Bookbag are seen in Episode 1 of Season 7.
The Bookbag and Mug are soulmates <3
I'm unsure of who may have recieved these items outside of the animators over at Studio Mir however Shiro's Voice Actor Josh Keaton owns the Galaxy Garrison Mug.
Look At These Two Creatures.
Between the years of 2016-2018 if you were an American based Voltron fan you could receive multiple different promotional posters by attending events at different conventions like SDCC, Wondercon and Emerald City. The first of these posters released was given away on March 25th 2016 at the Voltron Legendary Defender panel at Wondercon. This panel was the first look the general public got at Voltron Legendary Defender.
Another way you could obtain a poster was by sending fan mail to Dreamworks. There seems to have been a small window of time after Season 1 released where you would receive a promotional poster alongside some stickers and a written response from the shows staff thanking you for your letter.
