POP Kids is a childrens TV channel owned by Sony that was available in the UK and Ireland (sry I'm british) VLD started airing in September 2017 was then moved to POP MAX around December of 2018 and finished around March/April of 2020 but was advertisted as being on the channel until the start of 2021.
Ecxact dates can't me found as most of the POP website hasn't been archived. I can't speak about the shows popularity but the non existant discussion of it being on the Network speaks volumes, what discussion I could find was confusion from parents since VLD was a reboot of a tv show from the 80s that they had no memory of.
In the UK DOTU was only released on VHS and so isn't a part of pop culture like in America.
I did find some discussion from older Uk VLD fans mainly confusion as well since the Social Media pages were hyping up seasons 3 and 4 as new releases despite already being on Netflix.
Here are some Promos I could find, more do exist however include VLD in a montage of other shows on the channel. These ones are more specalised and in my opinion intresting.
[All We Got] Promo from September of 2017 includes footage from S1 and S2
[Save The Galaxy] Promo from November of 2017 includes footage from S1 and S2
Facebook Promo from April 2019 includes footage from S5 and S6
There exist two versions of this promo this shorter one in a 1:1 aspect ratio as well as a longer varient in a standard 16:10 with really bad audio mixing. I haven't found any proof that the longer version was shown on tv.
[Spring into Action] Promo from January of 2020 includes footage from S7
Voltron also had it's own section on the POP website. Take A Look Unfortunatly most of the content is unarchive.
The videos are most likley the same as these videos already posted to social media however I beleive the colouring pages and games are original.
A detail about VLD's release on POP that I've omitted until now is it's number of Seasons. So to explain things
Season 1 = S1 & S2
Season 2 = S3 & S4 & S5 & S6
Season 3 = S7 & S8
The way VLD was split into seasons on Netflix wasn't the intend release (at least with S3-S6) Source though stating that VLD doesn't have 8 seasons sounds weird >_<
I'm going to assume this 3 Season release was used for TV airings of the show. This Australian Promo I found confirms my theory.
The only other time I've personally seen this Season format be mentioned is in an Instagram post by VLD animaton director Kihyun Ryu. Refering to Season 8 as Season 3.
For some reason this topic has really integuid me since learning about it. Maybe it's because of VLD's heavy assosiation, at least in my mind, with Netflix and the Streaming Wars so seeing it outside of that context feels wrong though with the show no longer on Netflix and my own reasearch into Netflix and Dreamworks 2013 partnership I've never seen VLD as a show that Netflix made but rather a show that they distributed. Or another answer why I find this topic intresting is the idea of an alternate reality of me potentally seeing VLD at younger age. I was a Disney XD loyalist growing up but I do remember watching Pop at freinds houses or in hotel rooms so the idea that me and Voltron could have crossed paths earlier is an alluring hypothetical.
